E. HYBURNIA WILLIAMS

Hyburnia WilliamsE. Hyburnia Williams was born and reared in Montgomery County TN in the Oakwood Community. He was one of 11 children to Andrew & Leah Williams, He attended the public schools there and graduated from Burt High School in Clarksville, TN. 

He holds a bachelor and Masters degree in Speech & Communications from Tennessee State University and Administrative certification from Austin Peay State University. After graduation, he was employed at Mississippi Valley State College until drafted into the military service. After a tour of duty in Germany, he returned to his high school alma mater as head of the English department. 

At the close of Burt High School, he was transferred to Northwest High School where he continued to serve a chairman of the English department until elevated to Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. He retired in 1995 after 35 years in education. 

Mr. Williams holds membership in national, state and local retired Teachers Association, Tennessee State Alumni Association, St. James Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons and past president of the Clarksville Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc and founder of Psi Pi Chapter. At 2004 National Conclave of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc he was awarded the gold diamond pin for 50 years membership. He serves on the Montgomery County Election Commission.

He’s married to Beverly Gilbert Williams of Charlotte, TN. They reside in Clarksville TN and has a daughter, Tracie Johnson Mullins (James) and grandson Jamie.

Psi Pi Chapter’s scholarship initiative was renamed E. Hyburnia Williams Scholarship Fund in 2011 to honor this living legend and member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The Scholarship Fund awards locally $1,500 every year as a part of the International Essay Contest held in October.
